If you think Tenerife is not suitable for children, you are seriously mistaken. Tenerife is considered one of the best destinations for a family vacation. With a mild climate throughout the year, as well as multiple quiet and secluded places to stay, you will not have to worry that your children will not be able to fall asleep because of noisy parties. There are a large number of family friendly beaches with activities for all the kids and entertainment venues for juniors.
The choice of location
For vacations with children it is better to consider the southern part of the island. There are fewer beaches in the north of the island – the seaside is steep, the air is more humid and the water is cooler, but the vegetation is lush and there is a place to hide in the shade on a sunny day.
The north of Tenerife is worthwhile for going only on a sightseeing tour or for visiting Loro Park.
In the south, the air and water temperature is slightly higher, the beaches are wider and the entrance to the water is more child friendly and in general there are more places for family trips.
When choosing a region with a small child, it is better to choose a quieter resort, such as Los Gigantes, Callao Salvaje or La Caleta. The beaches are smaller and used by families with children from nearby hotels.
If your child is aged between 7 and 10, they will find it more interesting in Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos.
Los Cristianos is a budget option with a bias towards hotel service. Costa Adeje is famed for the best beaches in Tenerife, where your child can have fun and be safe. The beaches are large and spacious.
If you are interested in wide beautiful beaches, you should consider Fanabe-Torviscas.
When choosing a hotel, decide which requirements are your priority: the level of service, catering, location, price per room and so on. We covered this in a separate article, as it is a very important point when organizing a family vacation in Tenerife.
How can you entertain children?
The beaches, of course, are wonderful, but one gets tired quickly from this kind of vacation activity, and the child will be bored in a couple of days. Therefore, think in advance about entertainment. If you do not do this, you won’t know what to look at first, because Tenerife has something for children of every age.
Even if you live in the south of the island, you must visit the north. The north provides a lot of entertainment and beautiful places to visit.
In Tenerife you can use the public transport services, but it is better to take care of the airport transfers in advance. Car rental is inexpensive here. The average cost of renting a car in Tenerife is 20 Euros per day. The benefits of such a move would be invaluable, especially if you plan to visit many different places. You can travel around in taxi cabs, but it will not be cheap.
You can start an entertainment program with Jungle Park. The park has several contact zones where you can touch different animals, for example, a lemur or an iguana. In fact, there is a huge number of animals that can be watched for hours.
When entering the park, be sure to take a booklet with a schedule of all entertainment shows. You should not miss the exciting feeding of funny penguins or sea lions shows. But what exactly your child will like most and, and most probably, you, too, is a show of eagles and other large birds.
A visit to this park takes at least several hours. If you plan to attend the park give yourself a whole day.
Family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children will cost you 78 Euros (price may vary, it is therefore worthwhile checking directly before visiting).
If you really love animals, we recommend Monkey Park. It is located in Las Americas very close to the motorway. There are many different monkeys that you can feed and watch. Bringing food to the park is prohibited and visitors’ bags are always checked.
One of the main attractions is Loro Parque. This is a large park with animals, where you can watch killer whales, dolphins, fur seals, a red panda or anteater. There are many animals to see and your children will be entertained for hours. Ticket price for 1 person from 14 Euros.
When you have finished with the zoos and parks, it’s time to move to outdoor activities. Your child will be delighted with one of the best water parks in the world, Siam Park.
Most of the rides in Siam Park are designed for children from a height of 125 cm. Therefore, if your child is shorter than that, they will be limited in options.
Ticket price:
- For adults 37 Euros
- For children over 5 years old 25 Euros
- For children under 5 – free of charge
Nearby there is another Aqualand water park. It is inferior in the number of entertainment and slides Siam Park, but it has less turn and prices.
Children under 5 will find it much more exciting in Aqualand than in the crowded Siam Park.
But do not just stay in one place. There are many wonderful locations on the island you can go to with your whole family. Your child will love the Submarine Safari in Amarilla Golf, or the trip on the picture in the Karting Tenerife Club.
If you are interested in knights and medieval themes, you are welcome to visit San Miguel, where knightly tournaments are held several times a week. A ticket for children costs 23 Euros, for adults 2 its twice that price – 46 Euros.
We also recommend that you visit the Museum of Science and Space, the Teide National Park at the foot of the volcano, Forestal Park with your whole family.
If you want to experience a lot on the emotional level, you are expected in Puerto for de Guimar, where you can play paintball and fight rivaling teams with your whole family.
This is only a small part of what you can have fun with the whole family on the island of Tenerife. There is really a lot of entertainment and most likely you will not have time to visit everything at once, unless of course you have come for a couple of months. Therefore, mapping out a route and an entertainment plan is the number one goal for you and your family. With a clear plan, you can organize an unforgettable vacation for your child as well as for yourself.
