Best dog-friendly beaches on Tenerife Island

Best dog-friendly beaches on Tenerife Island

Taking your dog on holiday with you is a good idea. The authorities of the Canary Islands are very pet-friendly and even have granted the permission for some beaches to walk the pets there. Some people ignore the fact that there are still beaches where it is prohibited though and do not pay any attention to dog walking prohibition signs. However, we highly recommend not to do so. Hardly anyone of you is interested in paying a fine of several hundred euros.

Luckily, it is absolutely legal to walk with your pet on the beaches listed below:

Playa del Puertito

It is a small beach covered with black volcanic sand. It was among the first beaches to have been granted a permission for walking the pets there. There is not much space, but it is never crowded. People coming here are mostly locals who live nearby. It is not a rare occasion though to meet tourists, who are not great fans of the crowded city beaches, walking with their pets.

Playa de Las Teresitas

On this long sandy beach, it was not allowed to visit with pets until 2018, but recently the authorities allocated about 25,000 euros for the arrangement of the special area for dog walking. This means that you will not be able to walk across the whole territory of Playa de Las Teresitas with your dog, but will still have a chance to visit it and enjoy picturesque views from the pet-friendly side of the beach without getting in the pet-free beach lovers’ way.

Playa del Confital

This one is a small-scale sandy beach more than 172 m long, ideal for walking with your dog. The beach is separated from the main tourist beach area and is usually uncrowded. You and your dog will be able to enjoy absolute freedom here. People usually come to sit and relax on the seaside while their dogs are playing together at the short distance.

Playa del Cabezo

It is a sandy beach located in the town of El Medano. It is not very long, but it is quite wide. Gently sloping sea coast is perfect for running and playing with your dog in the water.

You can visit all of the above-listed locations even with large dogs if they wear a muzzle. As for the other beaches not listed in this article, you can visit them with a Yorkshire terrier only. In any case, always carry your dog’s pet passport with you and do not let your pet bother people around, otherwise, they may contact a police station and you will be given a fine.

Due to the fact that the island has a lot of wild beaches, you will be comfortable walking with your dog. Even if you cannot visit your favorite city beach, you can still find beaches where you will be welcome around the city.
