What to do in Tenerife

When coming to Tenerife for the first time, you will need to think about what you will do on the island and what you would like to devote all your vacation to.

Tenerife may surprise you and offer you entertainment for every taste. Tenerife is full of contrasts and thanks to the tropical climate, tourists can visit the island all year round. You can swim in the ocean in the Winter and Summer or you can sunbathe on the beach and on the same day see the snowy summit of the sleeping Teide volcano.

If you are undecided what to do in Tenerife, we have prepared some valuable recommendations for you.

The magnificent beaches of Tenerife

Tenerife has 14 beaches marked with the Blue Flag international award for cleanliness. Each beach is a work of art. With black volcanic sand, the Tenerife beach of Benijo is unlikely to be suitable for swimming in the sea due to strong waves, but you can fully enjoy the views.

If you like a comfortable rest, you can choose one of dozens of equipped beaches with all the infrastructure. For a comfortable stay, go to the beach of El Kamison, with white sand and sunbathing beds.

There are some more artificial beaches that you can visit. For example, Las Teresitas – the sand is brought in from the Western Sahara and has a bright light color. You can even visit this beach with children because it is protected from the strong current and waves by a special dam.

Hiking through the gorges and the volcano

If a relaxing beach vacation is not for you, we recommend a hiking program. The Masca gorge is best suited for this purpose. The gorge reaches a high of more than 1,300 meters and the path through it goes to the ocean beach. Awesome sight.

If you want to get on the Masca Trail, you need to get to the village with the same name – Masca. The mountain trail begins from there. But be very careful, as it is easy to get injured in the gorge, and you will have to wait a long time for help.

None of the tourists who arrived in Tenerife can pass by the main attraction – the volcano Teide. This is the highest point of Spain. Its summit is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters, and all travelers who have visited the crater say that this is an incredible feeling. It is not recommended to climb to such a height without experience, so it is better to book a trip to the Teide volcano in advance.

By the way, on the way, you can visit the Teide National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Active rest guarantees good impressions

If you prefer active rest and ordinary hiking is not for you, Tenerife may surprise you with a variety of entertainment.

Paragliding over the beaches and gorges is a trend in Terenife. If you want to try this kind of extreme recreation, plan a trip to areas such as Izana-Puerto de la Cruz, La Corona-Los Realejos, Taucho-Adeje.

There are a lot of pleasant impressions besides being in the air. Fans of catching the wave come to Tenerife from all over the world to learn surfing and learn skills necessary for more extreme places.

Tenerife has many beaches with good waves. The most popular places for surfing are the beaches of Los dos Hermanos and El Charco on the north coast, Fuera de la Baheta, the Punta Blanca beach on the west coast. The southern and southeastern part of the island is not suitable for surfing, as the sea is calmer there.

There are even special schools, where you can buy surfing lessons and learn how to catch the wave.

Do not forget that Tenerife has a rich underwater world. The temperature of the water all year round is not lower than 18 degrees, and the ocean almost always has ideal conditions for diving.

Cultural activities

Extreme sports are nice, but if you want to spend time on cultural activities, we recommend you spend the whole day visiting Loro Parque. This is an amazing place with a dolphinarium, aquarium, botanical garden, zoo. In this park, there are more than 500 species of birds, as well as dozens of other animals.

It will take you a whole day to visit the park, so it’s better to set aside time for cultural rest. It will be interesting both for adults and children. Tickets for Loro Parque can be bought in advance on our website.

It is unlikely that you will be able to try everything that Tenerife can offer you in one vacation. There really is lots to do and get lasting impressions from both a quiet and an active vacation.

Enjoy the Loro Parque shows!
